Need an outlet installed in your home or business? If you want to update your home and need to add an outlet where there currently is none or you would like to replace an outlet that is not Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter or GFCI ready, contact us.
Older homes often come with very few outlets where you actually need them. Or the outlets that do exist are not up-to-code with GFCI. In fact according to code requirements, residential branch circuits for receptacles and lighting must have GFCI, also known as Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter, AFCI protection.
AFCI protection is required in new construction and when old systems are updated or replaced. Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) are required by the National Electrical Code for certain electrical circuits in the home.
Arc faults are created by current flowing down the wrong path which causes extreme heating at the point of the arc. This can also cause burning particles that can start a fire in surrounding framing or insulation. Arc temperatures can exceed 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit!
GFCI and AFCI outlets and breakers are two important safety features that can help protect your home from electrical fires. GFCI outlets trip when they sense a short to ground, while AFCI outlets trip when they detect an arc fault. Both types of outlets are becoming more common and many insurance companies offer discounts for homes that have them.
When it comes to the safety of your home, you can never be too careful. Having GFCI and AFCI outlets and/or anfci or GFCI breaker installed is a great way to help protect your home from electrical fires.
