Bausum and Duckett Electric attended the Construction Trade Foundation Career Fair presented by Donohoe Construction. The Construction Trade Foundation’s Career Fair was held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Silver Spring, MD. The Thomas Edison High School of Technology is Montgomery County’s only vocational program that offers training and education in the construction trades. Their program includes architecture (drafting), carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal, masonry, and electrical. Students who complete their program have OSHA 30 training and the equivalent of one year of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) apprenticeship training.
As the construction industry faces an increasing shortage of skilled labor, it is incumbent upon all of us to encourage and promote programs like the Edison School of Technology. We participated in the career fair, met the staff and students of the program, and toured their facility, including the new facility that is scheduled for completion and opening next Fall. The career fair offered opportunities to hire new graduates for full time positions, including hiring rising seniors as summer interns to further their exposure to our industry.
